I was fascinated by this enormous fallen tree in the forest in the Valley of the Giants at Walpole; it stood as tall as me, which, whilst admittedly not particularly tall for a person makes for a particularly impressive tree stump. And an awful lot of firewood, had the impulse taken the landowners.

The texture of the broken timber makes for a beautiful print, particularly on larger canvases, when the sunspots serve to further emphasise the darkness of the interior.
